Meet Bryan    -   Visit Shop

I’m a wood artist, father, and husband. I started Polis Woodworking in the fall of 2015 as a culmination of my life’s passions: woodworking and kids. I grew up hanging out with my grandfather who taught me the skills of woodworking. I was a machinist for several years and then went on to become a youth pastor, where I always enjoyed being around kids and enabling them to better themselves. When the opportunity was presented to open Polis Woodworking through a generous donation for the benefit of empowering kids via woodworking, I couldn’t pass it up.

The vision of Polis Woodworking on the near west side is to give inner city kids an opportunity to learn woodworking skills. Skills that can empower them to create real products and real opportunities for themselves. When possible we involve kids in the entire process, from idea generation to design, and from build to the final sale. For me, there’s no greater satisfaction than seeing the excitement on kids’ faces when their products get sold – they are beaming!

Several products in our shop are designed or built by kids. All proceeds are reinvested into the shop to provide opportunities for the next kid.

The Process   -   Visit Shop

We try to make everything in our shop from locally sourced or reclaimed wood. Our process always starts with the design. Whether we are working on a custom piece or creating our own pieces, some of our best ideas come from the kids. Each product is built with precision, passion, and care. We encourage all of our customers to come by the shop to pick up their product, see what we’re up to, and meet some of our talented kids.
